Oh, my, it has been over a month and many, many Psalms since I have posted.
I have not been writing but the Psalms have been my companion as I have waded thru the many tasks and emotions of having our minister leave.
Yesterday was the "Going To" luncheon and I had such fun preparing the fellowship hall and food for the celebration for the Nace Family.
Such mixed emotions. Sad for me - happy for them. Reading the Psalms makes it very clear that there are no new emotions on earth. Praising God. Singing His Praises. Wailing and imploring Him to listen to our call. WOW. The saying is God works in mysterious ways and I would have to say that having the congregatioin reading the Psalms together during this time is an example of that.
SO, one of yesterdays Psalms was 145. The verse that struck me is verse number 18
The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.
Such a reassurance as we face the next chapter at St. John's.
We are almost finished with the Psalms. Four to go. Then we will be headed into the Proverbs.
Verses on wisdom, and folly. I believe that the Lord has a plan for us. I pray that we will follow his plan with Wisdom and avoid Folly.
I had not intended to continue to blog thru the Proverbs ( though I HAD intended to post more often during the Psalms. )
If you are interested in continuing - please email me at bkipp@frontiernet.net and let me know.
I surely will if there is interest.
Yours in Christ, beverly kipp

Today's reading takes us up to and including Psalms 90 and 91
Psalm 90 begins a new section of the Psalms - Book IV
I haven't found an explanation of why the Psalms are divided like this but I will ask Ryan or John.
Sometimes I feel like reading the Psalms is like reading about someone elses' bad day but then I come to verses that uplift me like the end of Psalm 91 and I am glad I keep on reading.
Have a God filled day.

Names of out Lord
we are up to Psalm 87 and 88 for today. I cought up yesterday and noticed how many names God is called in just a few Psalms.
My God
Saviour
Shepherd of Israel
God Almighty
God of Jacob
Our Strength
Lord God
Most High
Living God
My King
Our Sun and Shield
Forgiving and Good
and we are called his Sheep.
and the exhortation is to listen to Him and follow his ways.
ah, how blessed I feel to have a shepherd to lead the way.
have a wonderful day.

A review of History
Psalm 78 is one of the longer poems in the Bible. Not the longest, but one of them. It is our reading for today and tomorrow, but I read it in one sitting. It is easy to read it as a dry recitation on the past, but God exhorts us to pass on the lessons of the past to future generations.
Our hope for our children is that they can learn from the mistakes of others.
God's hope is the same for his children - us.
It is a hard lesson for us all.

looking back
my study Bible likens this Psalm to a wedding anniversary. It points out that in times of despair when we feel like God is not "listening" to our woes we should remember all the good that he has done in our lives. hmmmmmm
The fact of the day is that Psalms 77 78 105 and 106 are known as the historical poems.
have a great day.

Psalm75 and 76
Good morning. Todays Psalms are tough for me. They speak to things in ways I don't really get.
I am so used to turning to the Psalms that are familiear that they almost feel personal. So, as I have come across the more abstract I find myself wishing I had Pastor Ryan setting up the context like he does for the sermons.
I have started reading the Psalm first in my tattered and torn familiar Bible and then turning to a study Bible to make the lesson more accessible.
If you don't have a study bible - talk to us at church and we can help you choose one or borrow one. If you are interested in a more in depth study - John Roberts is addressing the Psalms in hie Tuesday morning Bible Study. Join in. You don't have to go every week to participate - just join them when you can.
What has been your favorite Psalm so far?? what do you keep going back to? What ones have you memorized? let us know.

catching up
I don't know about you, but sometimes I just plain can't keep up. that is how it has been for me for several days. As you can see, I have not posted even the selections since January and it is already January 4th - who can believe that - and now they are forcasting snow and we are probably right on the line of either ALOT of snow or NO snow. hmmmm. no telling.
so, here is the catch up list.
We are up to Psalm 70 and 71 for today tomorrow the 5th will be psalm 73.
I was not idle in my absence
I was blessed with the gift of attending my neice and her husband's birth - they have a new BIG baby boy - Caden Patrick - to love. They are an inspiration themselves. Jesse and Chris took on three teenage siblings when her mother - my sister - in - law died several years ago. since then they got married and finished college, got good jobs, helped the other kids go to college and get jobs and got a puppy. Now they are parents of a new born. Keep them in prayer please.
As i read the Psalms I ponder the rhythm of life. THe praises and the pleadings. Thank you God and Help me God and where in the heavens are you GOD???
If you fall behind on your reading too, simply pick up where we are and catch up on a good snow day. God understands.
happy reading.
